Jamia to organize One-Day Symposium on ‘Translating Modernity: A Study of Literary Cultures in India’

New Delhi: The Department of English, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in collaboration with Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi is going to organize one-day Symposium on‘Translating Modernity: A Study of Literary Cultures in India’.

The inaugural session of the program is scheduled to be held on February 19, 2019 at 10.00 AM in the Conference Hall of FTK-Centre for Information Technology, JMI.

Prof. Nishat Zaidi, Head, Department of English, JMI shall welcome the guests and introduce the theme.

Mr A.P. Siddiqui (IPS), Registrar, JMI and Mr Sreenivasrao, Secretary, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi shall be the guests of honour in the inaugural session.

In the inaugural panel, Prof. Supriya Chaudhuri, Jadavpur, University, shall speak on the topic ‘Registers of the New: Understanding Modernity in 19th and 20thCentury India’ and Prof. Harish Trivedi, Delhi University on ‘Modernity, with or without Translation’.

Professor Alok Bhalla, English & Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad shall Chair the inaugural panel.

The symposium is spread over in three sessions in which speakers shall discuss and deliberate on the topics relevant to the theme of the symposium.

In the Valedictory session, Prof. Simi Malhotra, Department of English, JMI shall speak on ‘The Path Ahead’. The valedictory session shall be chaired by Prof. M. Asaduddin, Department of English, JMI.
