3 Jamia alumni won first prize in International Snow Sculpture Competition in Japan

New Delhi: ‘Abhyuday’, a  team consisting of three alumnus of Faculty of Fine Arts of Jamia Millia Islamia won first prize in International Snow Sculpture Competition held in Nayoro, Japan recently. This was the first ever team from India that participated in this very popular international competition. Team Russia and Team Thailand got the second and third prize respectively.

Working under the most adverse conditions the team ‘Abhyday’ won the title by beating highly equipped 11 selected teams from eight developed countries that participated in the tournament. It is worth mentioning that none of the three members belong to a state of the country which experience snow fall. Ravi Prakash from Bihar, Sunil Kumar Kushwaha from MP and Rajnish Verma from UP are the three alumnus and team member of  ‘Abhyday’  who achieved this milestone. After completing his education from the Faculty of Fine Arts,  Ravi Prakash is working as a Guest Faculty too in the Faculty of Fine Arts, JMI.

The team Abhyday sculptured 4 meters high, 3 meters long and 3 meters wide Varah Avatar of Lord Vishnu in the competition under bone chilling high speed cold wind and -25 degrees Celcius freezing temperature.

This team recently participated in International Ice and Snow Sculpture Competition held at Harbin, China also and won two Excellence Award and one Special Award there . 

The team received warm welcome at Jamia Millia Islamia. Jamia fraternity congratulated the team and wished them more success in the future.
