New Delhi: Students of vocational courses of Balak Mata Centre run by Jamia Millia Islamia in the walled city of the capital paid glowing tribute to the CRPF jawans martyred in terror attack in Pulwama by performing group dance on patriotic sons as part of their cultural festival ‘Jashn-E-Khwateen’ on February 23, 2019.

Tiny-tots of the centre situated in Matia Mahal area of old Delhi and their mothers also took part in the full day cultural extravaganza during which the participants performed on various patriotic  Hindi songs.

Mothers who live in old Delhi area and usually do not come out of their veils, participated in musical chair and quiz competition. Around 300 women participated in various events.

Nursery and primary section kids performed on various Hindi songs and took part in painting competition. Girl students of the centre enrolled in vocational courses like cutting, tailoring, beautician, textile designing, hand embroidery and computer training programmes participated in mehdi, street play, ‘Naat’ singing, dance, embroidery and slogan writing competitions. Various teams of students from vocational courses enrolled at the centre and its two branches in the capital presented street play on the theme of environment protection. Teachers and officiers from JMI and local area Councilor, Mrs. Sultana Abad Khan also attended the event.

In Balak Mata Centres, both mother and child can get education under one roof. Mothers get education and learn various crafts and at the same time their children get nursery and primary education. Three Balak Mata Centres are currently running — Matia Mahal, Qasabpura and Beriwala Bagh – areas in the capital. Balak Mata Centre, Matia Mahal, is situated in a 400-year old heritage building. It has received Heritage Award in 1993.

It was the vision of Late Dr. Shafiqur Rehman Kidwai, one of the luminaries behind the formation of Jamia Millia Islami, that Balak Mata Centres came into existence. He wanted that each and every class of the society should get education. These centres were started under Adara-E-Taalim –O-Taraqqi in 1938.
