New Delhi: Showing her affection towards special children, Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated 73rd Independence Day with them at the Child Guidance Centre, a school running in the university campus for children having mental and physical disability and lacking in mind-body coordination with behaviour & emotional problems, learning disabilities, low I.Q. and speech problems.
The children in the age group of 6 to 22 years gave mind-boggling dance performance on patriotic songs on the direction of their teachers, surprising the audience including the Vice-Chancellor.
Speaking on the occasion the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the teachers who are working hard to provide special education and training to these children.
“Teachers are really working hard to train these kids, which is a very difficult task.”, she said.
She told the parents of the children that they are lucky to have them as these children love and respect their parents much more than the normal one.
She also promised to help the school in all possible manner including improving its infrastructure.
The building in which the school, run by Zakir Hussain Society, is located has been provided by the university.
The school is facing serious financial crunch, Prof. Bara Rehman, Secretary of the society said, appealing to the people to come in support of these special children.
