New Delhi: A multidisciplinary research laboratory envisioned to carry out cutting edge innovation and research across disciplines was inaugurated in Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Najma Akhtar at an impressive function.

The laboratory set up in the university’s Multidisciplinary Centre for Advanced Research and Studies (MCARS) was opened with the first batch of students joining the centre to pursue a post-graduate diploma in molecular diagnostics.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that multidisciplinary research is the need of modern India and urged researchers to work in finding solutions to the issues relevant for the upliftment of humanity at large. 

She stressed that research and teaching should go hand-in-hand with dedication and advised faculty members to communicate their research works as well as their achievements to the people. She also visited the research laboratory and inaugurated specialized research facilities for Bacteriology, Structural biology, cell-culture and virology.

The function was attended among others by Registrar, Mr. A.P. Siddiqui (IPS),  faculty members, students and other dignitaries.

Prof. Sushant G Ghosh, Hony. Director, MCARS, in his introductory remarks, highlighted the achievements of MCARS particularly prestigious extra-mural research grants that the centre has received as also the research fellowship secured by its students since its inception in 2016.

The Registrar, JMI, in his address, commended the efforts of Prof. Ghosh in establishing MCARS and working tirelessly to make it the centre of excellence.

The Hon. Dy Director of MCARS, Dr. Kazim introduced the Vice-Chancellor, highlighted her prolific academic and administrative career.
