New Delhi: Saiyed Naseer Husain Jafri and Syed Umair Ahmed Andrabi, students of Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), cleared the Institutional Research Board (IRB) test and were selected by the Global Engagement Programme of the University of Rochester, New York, USA to attend a series of meetings for formalizing their proposed initiative. They are now eligible to take up research projects in the United States.
The two students co-founded a not-for-profit organization named Foundation for Academia Innovation & Thought (F.A.I.T.H). The organization as the first of its initiatives started an inter-disciplinary law journal, South Asian Journal of Law, Policy, and Social Research, to bridge the gap between law and other disciplines in South Asia, with SSRN (Elsevier) as their publisher.
The F.A.I.T.H. aims to harness the power of interdisciplinary and international scholarship to resolve conflict and right injustices. They envision a world in which collaborative research in the region addresses social problems, a world in which scholarship informs just government policies, and a world in which all individuals are free to live safe and dignified lives.
During their stay in the US, the two students successfully established a rotatory editorial board comprised of scholars and academicians from around the US universities & partnered with the University of Rochester, NY, USA and Susan B. Anthony Center, NY, USA.
FAITH also aims to start an incubator fund that will finance social justice initiatives/projects pertinent to South Asia. Each year, they will fund a total of four projects after a peer-review selection process. Their aim is to facilitate social justice through innovative ideas and to bring change to the region.
In addition to this, they plan to host colloquia on various social issues plaguing South Asian countries to find solutions through debate and discussion with renowned international scholars in their respective fields. These collaborations will also provide diverse cultural perspectives and foster connections among regional and international scholars and students.
In order to felicitate cultural exchange, the students have successfully coordinated with under-graduates and graduates from the US to work alongside volunteers/interns in South Asia under their International student collaboration programme.

The students can apply for the International Student Collaboration Programme by 30th of September 2019.
In addition to this, the students are starting a flagship photography contest wherein the best photograph on the theme, Gender-Based Violence in South Asia, will make it to the cover of the journal. The formal tentative launch-date of the Journal is 8th of March 2020.
