New Delhi: In a media statement released by Afshan Rahim (circulated on social media), the mother of Sharjeel Imam has alleged that her family members are being harassed and threatened by the police and state authorities. And they are traumatised by this incident.
In the handwritten statement, she says that Sharjeel Imam is being victimised for a statement that was twisted and taken out of context by the media. The family members have shown their trust in the ‘rule of law’ and promise for cooperation but they are demanding that respecting their Human Rights, the police should refrain from indulging in such actions.
Sharjeel Imam, IIT alumnus and PhD scholar at Jawaharlal Nehru University has been charged with sedition for calling on protestors to “cut off Assam from India”. He is facing sedition cases in Assam and Uttar Pradesh for his speech at Aligarh Muslim University on January 16.
