New Delhi: Students from Jamia Milia Islamia were stopped today by Delhi Police while carrying an anti-CAA march towards Parliament. Since the police had deployed heavy security around the campus, protesting students were stopped near the Holy Family Hospital in Okhla.
According to the eye witness, Upendra Singh, SHO of Jamia Nagar police station informed students that their permission to march at the Parliament has been rejected, to which the students protested claiming that it is their right to protest.
The police resorted to baton charge as the students tried to jump barricades. “We were protesting peacefully. As soon as I climbed on the barricade, a cop pulled me down, and my head hit the ground. They then started hitting me with their boots. As soon as I tried to rise, one cop hit my private part with his knee. The impact was so hard that I fainted on the spot. I can’t remember anything after that”, shared Meeran Haider, a student from Jamia.
Ladeeda Farzana, student activist from Jamia took to social media to share their ordeal, “What the Delhi police did last week in Raj Ghat march from Jamia Millia as well in today’s parliament march is unbearable. When they are not having any provocation from the protestors for a lathi charge, what they are doing is that they are poking with lathis on stomach and poking with pins on the body and twisting the hands of the peaceful protestors. After the hours of the cruelty of Delhi police many are getting unconscious, severely hurt. Fierce protests must be mounted against these police atrocities.”
According to reports, more than 10 woman students have been hit on their private parts and admitted to Jamia Health Centre. “There are blunt injuries and some students have been hit in a way that we had to shift them to Al Shifa because injuries are serious in nature,” the doctors confirmed.
