On June 3, Bihar Police had allegedly opened fire at a group of people who were protesting against the blocking of a road because of an upcoming factory in Bhajanpur village. Five people, including a pregnant woman and a six-month-old baby, were killed while nine others were injured.

A group of rights activists today met the NCM chairperson, whom he appraised that he had written a letter to the Bihar chief minister on June 14 expressing dissatisfaction over the report that the home secretary had sent.

Committee for Justice to Victims of Forbesganj Firing (CJVFF) is an umbrella organization of rights activists, journalists, students and educationists formed to press for the justice for those killed in police firing.

Habibullah wrote, “The Commission is entirely dissatisfied with the report received from Araria District SP Ms. Garima Malik, which fails to explain why it should have become necessary for the police to open fire so indiscriminately as to target women and babies, and disappointed by the communication received from Shri Amir Subhani, Home Secretary, Bihar.”

The following day, the team will also be seeking a report from the Chief Minister on the action taken in this matter.

CJVFF has welcomed the active intervention of the Commission Chairperson and requested him to see that those injured get the best possible medical care.

The team that met the NCM chairperson comprised of Mahtab Alam and Iqbal Ahmed (CJVFF); Manisha Sethi and Ahmed Sohaib (Jamia Teachers’ Solidarity Association) and memorandum submitted also bears the signatures among others by the office bearers of ANHAD, AISA, NAPM, and INSAF.
