New Delhi: The National Commission for Minorities is considering sending notice to Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy asking for an explanation from him on his controversial remarks against the minorities. The commission wants Swamy to explain the inflammatory comments made by him in a controversial article on ‘Analysis: How to wipe out Islamic terror.’
National Commission for Minorities Chairman Wajahat Habibullah said that legal opinion has been sought as Subramanian Swamy has been found to be in violation of several provision of the Indian Penal Code. Habibullah said that Swamy’s article was guilty of inciting hatred against the minorities.
The commission will take up the issue on Tuesday.
Harvard University, where Swamy is presently on a teaching assignment, has also demands his removal from the list of visiting faculty. Swamy teaches Economics S-110: ‘Quantitative Methods in Economics and Business’ and Economics S-1316: ‘Economic Development in India and East Asia’ at the University.
Harvard University newspaper Harvard Crimson quoted him as saying: “In India, there has been wholesale support for the article.”
In the article published in the DNA on July 16 Swamy has called Islamic terrorism as India’s number one problem.
