Police Arrest Pro-Telangana Leaders to Foil “Million March” Protest

Hyderabad: In an attempt to make “Million March to Hyderabad” protest unsuccessful, the police today arrested many pro-Telangana leaders belonging to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as they moved to participate in the protest.

The police did not allow them to march, which was scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The TRS MLAs were taken into custody soon after they started marching toward the Tank Bund at Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad, the venue of the protest.

Lambasting the goverment for this move, T. Harish Rao, member of legislative assembly from the TRS, said that by arresting people, the government could not suppress the democratic and legitimate demand for a free Telangana State.

TDP MLA E. Dayakar Rao, senior BJP leader Ch. Vidyasagara Rao, including many others are among those who has been arrested near Basheerbagh. The police also detained M. Kodandaram, convenor of the Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) while he was stepping out of the JAC office.

TRS President K. Chandrasekhar Rao demanded the immediate release of the arrested MLAs and other Telangana supporters.

Scores of Telangana supporters still reached the Tank Bund and shouted slogans in support of a separate Telangana and against the Congress government.
