Demand for AMU Center in Bihar grows as bureaucratic hurdles delaying the process

BeyondHeadlines News Desk

New Delhi: The AMU Centre Coordination Committee, Delhi, organized a national conference in the national capital to press the Bihar government to make necessary arrangement for the establishment of a study centre of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) at Kishanganj in the state.

Addressing the conference, Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) Supremo and former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav said: “The AMU centre in Kishanganj is the right of people of Bihar and no government can stop it.” Lending his full support, he said, “It is my cause, and I assure you my best for the same,” he said. He further said, “It is the duty of the state government to provide land for the proposed centre and stop playing administrative gimmick.” He emphasized for a mass movement in Bihar’s capital Patna.

Speaking on the occasion, AMU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof P K Abdul Azis ensured his full cooperation and commitment for the establishment of the AMU Centre in Kishanganj. Prof Azis, whose term is getting over in January, said, “It is my heartiest desire to see AMU centre in Kishanganj in my own term”. He further said, “I am trying my best for and will keep trying till last.”

It can be noted that the proposed centre is getting delayed for past three years due to negligence attitude of Bihar government. The Bihar government is claiming time and again about offering the required 250 acres of land to AMU administration. However, the fact is that the land is in three pieces; water logged and illegally encroached by tribals on the guidelines of some local politicians. The AMU VC is demanding the land as per the University rules that says the 250 acres land should be in one piece, controversial free and have 30 feet wide road connecting with state or national highway.

Samajwadi Party Secretary Kamal Farooqui, Lok Janshakti Party National Vice President Ashfaq Kareem, Shakeel-uz-Zaman Ansari of the Indian National Congress and office bearers of various social ogarnisations, have also ensured their support on behalf of their parties.

The national conference, which was organized by ‘AMU Kishanganj Centre Coordination Committee Delhi’ to gather the support of national political leaders, journalists, academician and members of civil society, was attended by more than 500 hundred people across the nation.

A call of mass movement in the leadership of Kishanganj MP Maulana Asrarul Haq Qasmi has been given from October 12, which will be a democratic agitation against the Bihar government for the establishment of the proposed AMU centre in Kishanganj. It also vowed to fight for the noble cause till it gets a physical shape in Kishanganj.

AMU Centre Coordination Committee has been running a campaign for the AMU Study Centre in Kishanganj for the past two years. The committee, as it claims, has support of around 10000 people belonging to Bihar and currently studying or working across the country and abroad especially in the Gulf.
