Former JNU Student President Beaten by Congress Supporters During Sibal’s Press Conference in Ranchi

BeyondHeadlines Staff Reporter

Ranchi:  Sandeep Singh, a former student leader and political activist was thrashed by Congress workers outside Hotel Ashoka in the city, after he asked ‘uncomfortable’ questions to Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal.

Sibal is traveling to different cities to garner support on government’s reservation over the Civil Society’s version of the Jan Lokpal Bill.

Sandeep is affiliated to All India Students’ Association (AISA) and was at the press conference that SIbal was holding in Hotel Aoshka as he is attached to Samkalen Janmat, mouthpiece of AISA’s parent party CPI (ML).

He asked the Union Minister questions over brining the PM within the ambit of the Lokpal, privatization in education, tax rebate to corporate houses and diversion from core issues of inflation, poverty, etc.

Sibal was perturbed. Some Congress workers, present in the hall, “threatened” and asked him to leave immediately.

Outside the hotel, some AISA workers were also shouting slogans against corruption, government’s virtual inactions and the Congress President.

As soon as Sibal left, Congress students’ union, NSUI workers attacked Sandeep and “badly beat” him.

Sandeep informed BeyondHeadlines that he has filed “an FIR,” but no action has been taken so far.

A protest was staged in the JNU campus last evening.

Sandeep was JNUSU president during 2007-2008 and is still a research fellow in the university.
