Indian FS Nirupama Rao is on two days visit to Islamabad to hold talk with her counterpart Salman Bashir.

Regional security and confidence building measures were discussed yesterday, while Kashmir dominated today’s first session. Promotion of friendly exchanges is also on the table.

Acting Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani, tipped to be full time soon, is hopeful of “forward movement.” She told the press yesterday, “What we don’t want is to get caught in the status quo mode where we just reiterate our positions. Hopefully, this meeting will give us more confidence to move forward.”

India had yesterday raised the issue of terrorism, specifically bringing to justice the perpetrators of 26/11. Samjhauta Express blast, in which some right wing Hindu extremists have recently been charged also, came up.

“All aspects relating to peace and security have been discussed and terrorism is an issue which is confronting both the countries and of course it is very relevant to peace and security,” Vishnu Prakash, official spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs said.
