Youth for Human Rights India (YHRI) is organizing a walk on December 10, commemorating International Human Rights Day, from Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. It is being organized to create awareness about human rights. People of all ages will join this walk to raise awareness about human rights. It will start at 11 A.M and go on till 12:15 P.M.

The International Walk for Human Rights is a way to create awareness across the world about the need for human rights and human rights education by many countries joining together to celebrate the United Nations Human Rights Day, December 10. Volunteers from USA, Germany, Slovakia, Holland, England, Mexico, Kenya, South Africa etc have organized this walk for the last 3 years. It started from a group of dedicated human rights advocates in 2009 with 12 walks in 12 countries, and more than doubled its size in 2010 to 62 walks in 27 countries.

The theme of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, was evoked by the United Nations in 1948, that human rights of all should be “respected, protected and promoted”. The nations of the world came together 62 years ago to proclaim that every individual, no matter where he or she lives, has fundamental rights that deserve protection. To that end, the world will celebrate International Human Rights Day on Dec. 10. Those fundamental rights were put into a document called the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The 30 articles that make up the declaration include the right to decent housing, an adequate education, to be free from racial and other forms of discrimination, to think and write what you choose, and to fair working conditions and more.
