BeyondHeadlines News Desk

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has organized a round table consultation on 23 November 2013 to discuss two welfare schemes of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MoHRD).

Participants from 14 India states discussed the schemes: “Scheme for Providing Quality Education in Madarasas” (SPQEM) and “Infrastructure Development in Minority Institutions” (IDMI).

JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. S M Sajid addressed the meeting and praised the students of Madarsas for having one of the best minds in the country.

He added that it was unfortunate that following 9/11, Madarsas were all brushed with one stroke and were seen by some as carrying out illegal activities.

He highlighted the importance of these Madrasas in providing education to those segments who have, for one reason or the other, remained on the margins of society.

The consultation was chaired by JMI Legal Advisor M. Atyab Siddiqui and Associate Professor of JMI Dr. Tanweer Fazal. They expressed their gratitude towards all the participants for involving in the consultation.

Members of the Madarsa Board, Members of the Management Committee of Madarsas and teachers involved with the Scheme were among the participants of the consultation meeting.

These participants discussed the implementation of two welfare schemes as well as the challenges and problems faced by the beneficiaries of the schemes.

JMI was handed over the evaluation of the two welfare schemes by the MHRD earlier during the year under the directorship of Prof. Azra Razzak.

The report is expected to be submitted by the end of November this year, said Dr. Sabiha Hussain.
