Jamia Students’ Solidarity Forum (JSSF) visited the Shamli district of Western Uttar Pradesh on the 15th of December with relief material for the victims of communal violence, who are living there in extremely grim and inhumane conditions.

JSSF decided to collect the relief after it was reported in many mainstream dailies, that the state government of Uttar Pradesh has not just failed in containing violence but has also failed in providing minimum relief to the victims in these camps.

The Student body was able to raise an amount of Rs 1,50,000/, from which it purchased around 800 blankets for the purpose of distribution among those living in the camps. Donations were accepted only from individuals and not from any organization.

JSSF identified the camps in far flung areas and remote villages of the district where relief operations have remained restricted due to poor connectivity and government’s sheer apathy.

The JSSF team visited the following camps for distribution, Bipur Hatia, Bhora .Blankets were distributed among every single individual living in these camps which included women children and men. Items of daily usage were also distributed to these victims.

JSSF, President Asad Ashraf asked the Chief Medical Officer of the district, Lokesh Kictumar Gupta to take into cognizance all the deaths that have taken place in these camps immediately and suggested ways to check the causes of the deaths.

Tajally Shehrayar organizations Vice President said that, “the purpose of Blanket distribution to fill in the void that has emerged in the relief on account of governments’ sheer ignorance towards these victims.”

Areeb Rizvi and IKshula Arora who are organizations General Secretary and Joint Secretary respectively, vowed to continue taking part in the relief operations in future. (Press Release)
