Don’t Miss 2nd Freedom Struggle – Why Should You Trust AAP?

Dr. Altaf Khoja for BeyondHeadlines

During the last few days, I have noticed lot of my friends, relatives, teachers and elders have raised questions about Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its work. I don’t accuse them, such questions are quite natural when you follow a party from the macro level and when you are unaware of how it stands different from others or when you don’t have in depth details about that party.

As a follower of AAP right from the first day, I have decided to list before you some of the most outstanding stories of AAP during the last 12 months that made my faith in AAP so strong like a mountain that it cannot be blown away by small winds.

IT IS A REQUEST. I URGE you, I beg before you. For the nation’s sake, PLEASE SPARE 5 minutes from your busy schedule and please GO THROUGH THIS POINTS. Let’s begin with the process of the selection of the AAP candidates.

The Process of selection of AAP candidates totally depends on people, Any common man, including you or me can ask for party ticket, with 100 signatures from the people of that constituency. A Political Affairs Committee interviews all such nominations, names of 3-4 candidates are put in public domain and people are asked to give their opinion on these guys.

Later a voting is held among the volunteers to select the right candidate. Any citizen of India has the power to raise objections against any candidate, and if he provides proofs of candidate being corrupt or having any criminal case against him, can face cancellation of his ticket.

For Delhi Polls 2013, AAP had mistakenly handed over the ticket to one such guy in Shahdara Constituency of Delhi who had some corruption cases pending against him and the people of that area along with the volunteers reported it and his ticket was cancelled and candidate was replaced with a newer cleaner one. (See the report)

AAP had declared all 70 candidates and all had filed nominations and even the date of filing nominations was over. Later on a case of dowry came up against a candidate from Rajouri Garden constituency, people complained, and even he was withdrawn. Since cancellation of candidature is not possible once nominations are filled up, AAP announced to the people of that area that please don’t consider him as a candidate. DON’T VOTE FOR HIM. Thus In a way they left that seat vacant, They decided we will fight from only 69 seats. (See the report)

Unbelievable, isn’t it ! None of the charges against both the candidates have been proven in any court of law but since these two guys did not bring these facts to the attention of the party while applying for candidature, tickets of both these candidates were cancelled. This is for the first time in the history of elections that a party has withdrawn its candidate on the ground of criminal or a corruption case against them, just a few days left for elections.

The Entire elections that AAP fought were funded by people like you and me. They had set the target of 20 crores as donations. The most unbelievable thing happened when AAP closed the donation window after it reached 20 crores few days before Delhi polls.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal thanked all the donors for their contribution and said that the party does not need any more funds to contest the elections. “Ur party needed Rs 20 crores to fight Delhi elections. We have met that target. We don’t need any more money for Delhi elections..,” Kejriwal tweeted.

“A big thank u to all donors. This is their clean hard earned money, which I am sue, will go a long way in cleaning up Indian politics..” – Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) November 17, 2013.

“Friends, ur party doesn’t need any more money for Delhi elections. Thanks so much.” – Arvind Kejriwal (@ArvindKejriwal) November 17, 2013.

Thus on one hand we have a party that fights elections in 20 crores, stops taking further donations and on the other side, even a single rally of Narendra Modi or Rahul Gandhi costs 10-15 crores. Add to that, the fact that Congress has 2000 crores of unaccounted money and BJP has 800 crores of unaccounted money from unknown sources.

JUST THINK! Let’s move on! Arvind Kejriwal and AAP inspired the youth to fight elections n participate in democracy. 25 years old MLA, 26 years old MLA, 27 years old MLA, 28 years old MLAs exist in AAP Delhi Assembly. A minister is 26, another is 34, one more is 39. Other Ministers are 41, 49, 49, 45. Of course other parties give tickets to youth but shayad kisi badde neta k bete-vete honge toh!!

AAP has it in its constitution that ONLY ONE MEMBER from a family can get a ticket or be a member of the executive. STRICT NO TO FAMILY POLITICS, STRICT NO TO DYNASTY POLITICS. In AAP Manifesto, the most basic thing AAP has is the “Swaraj” Law. AAP believes that MLA and MP funds should be abolished and the entire constituency should be divided into smaller wards.

For every ward, there will be 4 Mohalla Sabhas. Funds of MLAs and MPs will be directly transferred to these Mohalla Sabhas and decisions on what to do with those funds will be taken in the Mohalla Sabha outside your house. Mohalla Sabhas will be held once every month and all decisions will be taken over there in the presence of the people of that area. This is the major point that puts AAP different from other parties.

AAP believes in direct power into the hands of the people to judge where they should spend the resources that MPs and the MLAs get as funds. Following this theory, AAP went for PUBLIC REFERENDUM to decide whether they should form the government or not, thus AAP takes decision from the Janta as per public opinion. This doesn’t mean AAP will go to for public referendum for all decisions. But whenever important decisions are to be taken against party ideology and when there is a feeling that people’s opinion over-rules the party ideology.

It is when going with people’s decision is more important. People wanted AAP to form government. More than 70% wanted AAP to form the government and hence AAP had to form a minority government. AAP had asked both BJP and CONGRESS to support people’s issues and let AAP implement their manifesto, Congress opted to support AAP. BJP didn’t reply but you should remember even BJP was asked, Rajnath Singh was also written a letter. It would have been great if BJP and CONGRESS both supported AAP in the best interests of the people.

Any Ordinary Volunteer can raise voice within AAP. Kejriwal took a duplex of 5-5 rooms, Volunteers protested, he had to give up. Volunteers have power just as I mentioned above, 2 candidates of Shahdara and Rajouri Garden were replaced because of volunteers and the people of that area exposing the corrupt and bringing it to the notice of the people.

Besides these points, AAP also is in favour of an independent CBI, a strong Janlokpal bill, right to reject, right to recall. Guys whenever you feel like questioning the credibility of AAP, please read this post once.

The Biggest strength of AAP is its selfless volunteers who work for free because they trust AAP. Thousands of volunteers have given up their jobs in the service of the nation. Actually if AAP goes wrong any day, these volunteers selflessly working for free will itself back out and AAP will collapse.

So I am 100% confident AAP top leadership can’t put even a single foot wrong or they run the risk of AAP collapsing. Dr. Munish Kumar Raizada is a NEO-NATAL SPECIALIST doctor from UNITED STATES who left his hospital over there and was in INDIA for 3-6 months to work for AAP without expecting any kind of reward. Dr. Nehal Vaidya is a Pediatrician in BHUJ who left his hospital for around 10 days to work in Delhi for AAP with another doctor of around 70 years age, Dr. Madhav Navlekar’s father Dr. Ulhas Navlekar. Lots of volunteers have given up their job, luxurious lifestyle to work for the country. Please follow AAP seriously if you want a corruption free India.

You are missing a chance to contribute in this 2nd Freedom Struggle and to do something special for your country. Guys these are few points I wanted to bring to your notice, AAP is a party which will never ever tolerate goons or corrupt as their candidates, And be rest assured The Volunteers of AAP who are working selflessly without expectations of any kind of reward or returns, and with a real meaning to service the nation, They only will never ever allow the top AAP Leadership to take a wrong decision. Have faith in AAP and its selfless Patriots (Volunteers).
