28 Year Old Woman Thrown Down by Her Husband and In-laws From in Kondhwa

A 28-year-old woman had miraculous escape after she was thrown down by her husband and in-laws from   fifth floor gallery of their apartment in Kondhwa, as she couldn’t bring dowry.

The incident took place February 22 at Natasha Hill View society on NIBM Road, Kondhwa. The complainant Mary Minita Mithun Kattar was admitted in hospital for all these days, hence she filed complaint on Wednesday. Mithun works as senior executive in accounts department of a private logistics support company in Fursungi.

Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Mokashi, in-charge of Kondhwa police station, said, “Mary sustained sever spinal cord injury. Though she has been discharged from hospital, she has become she has to support life now in a wheel-chair. She stays with her relatives now.”

According to police, Mary and Mithun, both natives of Tamil Nadu, got married in May 2012. They have a minor son. Her husband, mother in-law and father in-law used to harass her mentally and physically as she had failed to bring 400 gm gold dowry as per their demand. The incident took place around 11 pm on February 22. Mary and her in-laws were decorating hall for birthday celebration of her son on the next.

PI Mokashi further added, “After getting tired Mary was resting on sofa in the hall when her in-laws again abused her over dowry demand. She didn’t had dinner and slept on the sofa after the altercation. Meanwhile, her husband and in-laws lifted her and were taking towards the gallery, when she woke-up. She resisted but her mother-in-law gagged her and the trio threw her down from the gallery. Mary fell on the gallery of a flat on second floor from her fifth floor flat. She sustained severe injuries and was hospitalised for all these days.”

After getting discharge from hospital, she lodged a complaint on Wednesday against her husband Mithun, father-in-law Ranjit Kattar and mother-in-law Priscila Fernando. Police have charged them for offences under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 498A (harassment of married woman by her in-laws) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police Sub Inspector Nitin Atkare, who is investigating the case, said, “Mary’s parents had already given cash and gold in dowry at the time of her marriage. But her in-laws were demanding 400 gm gold more and often harassed her over this issue. Investigations are on to nab them.”
