Human Rights Law Network in collaboration with over 40 organizations across India, is organizing a National Consultation on the Law and Legal Strategies to combat Violence against Women on the 12th, 13th and 14th of July, 2014 at Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, 1 Circular road, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi- 110021.
Violence against women (VAW)is one of the most pressing human rights issues facing the world today. Such gender-based violence is pervasive, affecting women of all backgrounds, and takes many forms including physical, mental or sexual. While the legal establishment in India has made recent strides in combating this issue, much remains to be done. Laws routinely fail to address the complexity of types of VAW, and provide inadequate measures of redress.
The consultation will bring together lawyers, activists, scholars and survivors to better understand the myriad dimensions of VAW, and more effectively develop measures in response. We invite you to come for the consultation and participate actively in the sessions! Please find attached the concept note and programme schedule for the consultation.
