New Delhi: In yet another shocking incident exposing the vulnerability of the NE populace residing in the capital, an attempt to outrage the modesty of NE girls by their landlord has sent shock waves across the entire community.

Two female Manipuri students of Delhi University, residing in Mohammadpur Village (South Delhi) have alleged that their landlord, Mahindra Tokas, aged 45 years, forced himself in their house with wrong intentions on Sunday evening. “He was in an inebriated state when he forcibly entered their house. The girls locked themselves in one of the rooms and called their friends for help”, said Timothy Chongthu, one of the NE representatives.

He added that both the girls in their twenties were earlier as well harassed by the landlord as he was stalking them since past few months. The girls have also alleged that he used to make some or the other excuse to enter their house.

The landlord has been arrested and a case has been registered in RK Puram police station under sections 451, 354, 546 and SC/ST Act.

The girls were however too scared to even file the complaint as they were threatened by the landlord’s wife with dire consequences. What added to their trauma was the indifferent approach adopted by the localites who chose to ignore and refused help despite witnessing the entire incident.

When contacted Robin Hibu, Delhi Police Nodal Officer for Northeast and Joint Commissioner (Training), he assured undivided attention into the matter and also said that the culprit won’t go unpunished.

As the traumatised girls were counselled by the representatives of Santosh (NGO), the gathering from across the NE community of Delhi expressed both anger and disappointment over the increase in discrimination cases against them, and demanded for stern steps to curb and same.
