Why Shy Away From Media Tyranny?

A recent news about a renowned media house refraining its journalists over use of social media is on one hand creating a furore among the journalists across the country, and on the other hand raising a major concern over the ever-rising dictatorship of various media houses, wherein the employees prefer to keep quiet due to the fear of losing their job, and hence, drawing a larger picture of the concept of greater demand than supply of jobs in the media industry. Dear Journalists Friends,

I read points mentioned in the recent TOI policy to put restrictions on its journalists over use of social media. I wonder and sad at the same time to see that how this is not only a non-standard (as it is not in use probably with other reputed newspaper/agencies of world), but also a cut on freedom to expression and more importantly a violation of privacy (as it try to encourage handing over user id and password of personal accounts as well and wants a right to post on behalf of person).

I wonder that why and how journalists at TOI and associated groups not raising voice. May be it can linked with various reasons.

Though I am not directly associated with TOI, but as an individual I feel that we must raise voice against this. The best thing can be done by you people who can write news stories/ articles against this policy in your newspaper as you are working for another newspaper and groups.

I am writing this mail to only appeal you for the same if it can be done by you. I think, we must come for this as if we will not come, such things will only increase and it may result as decreasing space for free speech and privacy.

Sincerely:

Ravi Nitesh
