A fake CBI officer arrested

Delhi: The city crime branch today has allegedly arrested a fake CBI officer on the charges of extortion and demanding money from a contractor.

The conman who has impersonated himself as CBI officer and Railway Suraksha Bal has been harassing a BSES contractor and demanding a ransom.

According to the police, the suspect who has been identified as Balraj Singh Maharana alias Bunti (34) resident of Kota, Rajasthan has demanded exhortation money from contractor on the grounds of sexual harassment.

The victim in his complaint said that he has been getting extortion calls from an unknown mobile. The caller alleged that he is calling from CBI office after a woman lodged a complaint against him for harassing her.

The caller demanded Rs 17 lakh and would implicate him in rape case if he fails to fulfil the demand. The contractor initially gave Rs.21000 cash and subsequently contacted the crime branch on 05 October.

A police team led by inspector Rajeev Kumar laid a trap in Darya Ganj on 07 October and apprehended the suspected. The police recovered a forged identity card depicting the CBI officer and Railway Suraksha, fake CBI stamps and pad, photographs in police uniform, holster for revolver and two mobile phones from his possession.

During the interrogation, it revealed that Blaraj was wanted in a failed kidnapping case of businessman in Rajasthan. In 2010, he was arrested in a case of NDPS Act of PS railway colony Kota in Rajasthan. On his released in 2012 he became a conman and started extorting money from public impersonating himself as a CBI officer and Railway Suraksha Bal.

The police said that the further investigation is going on in this case.
