AFMC CELEBRATE 251st ARMY MEDICAL CORPS ANNIVERSARY

PUNE: The Army Medical Corps is celebrating its 251st Anniversary on 01 Jan 2015. The AMC has a proud legacy of dedication, commitment, professionalism, valour and compassion. The outstanding professional ethos of the AMC has earned the corps the apt description of – “Soldier – Doctors”.

According to Surg Vice Admiral Sushil Kumar, Director and Commandant, AFMC, Pune, the Army Medical Corps has added immensely to its record of distinguished service to the nation during 2014. The Corps has received a grateful acknowledgement of the humane and selfless service rendered by its officers, nursing officers, JCOs and other ranks to the Indian Armed Forces and the nation from the highest echelons of the service.

The Corps has risen to every professional challenge faced by it over the years. The cutting edge of professionalism has been visible from the deserts of Rajasthan to the jungles of the North-East, from the high altitude areas of the Himalayas to the Seas. Hospitals and Health Care establishments are providing comprehensive health care to soldiers of all three services and their families round the clock, every day. Concerted efforts are being made to further improve the quality of health care to keep pace with the rising expectations of the clientele.

The AMC is keeping the Tricolour flying high by participating abroad in UN Peace Missions. In the field of medical science, centres of excellence are coming up at several tertiary care centres across the country. In Pune, Armed Forces Medical College, Command Hospital (Southern Command), Military Hospital (Cardio – thoracic Centre), Military Hospital (Kirkee) and Artificial Limb Centre form a formidable complex of outstanding medical expertise and education.

The AMC is marching confidently into the future in step with the best in medicine anywhere in the world. It is celebrating its 251st Anniversary with traditional warmth, dignity and elegance in a manner that has become the hallmark of the Corps.
