SOUTHERN COMMAND CONDUCTS INVESTITURE CEREMONY AT GATEWAY OF INDIA, MUMBAI

On the auspicious occasion of 67th Army Day, Southern Command Investiture Ceremony was conducted at Gateway of India, Mumbai on January 15 under the aegis of HQ MG & G Area.  Lieutenant General Ashok Singh . General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command, felicitated 30 officers and three jawans with gallantry and distinguished service awards. These awards have been given to the awardees for acts of bravery, exceptional devotion and service to the Nation.

These awardees include eight Sena Medals (Gallantry), four Yudha Seva Medals, one Bar to Sena Medal, six Sena Medals (Distinguished) and eight Vishist Seva Medals. The Army Commander also bestowed Unit Citation to 14 units of Southern Command for their meritorious and outstanding performance.   The ceremony was graced by a large number of civil and military dignitaries.

The General Officer-in-Chief Commanding, Southern Command, Lieutenant General Ashok Singh while speaking at the ceremony congratulated all the awardees and recipients of Unit Citations.   He called upon all ranks to emulate the awardees and do their best to project the name, fame and glory of Indian Army and the Nation.

The Investiture Ceremony was followed by Beating the Retreat ceremony.   An amazing display of skills including lezium was presented by soldiers of Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre, Belgaum. The glittering event concluded with a rousing Band Symphony. The martial music played by the combined bands of Artillery Centre, Nasik Road and BEG & Centre, Pune left the audiences spell bound.
