JNU Our Last Ideological Battle: ABVP Organizing Secretary, Sunil Ambekar

Pune: We have spread across India and now the final ideological battle will happen in JNU expressed Sunil Ambekar, Organizing Secretary, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He was speaking in Pune at the in inaugural session of ‘Words Count’ at JW Marriott on Senapati Bapat road.

‘Words Count’ – a festival of words has been hosted in Pune by Varsha Chordia and Sabina Sanghavi, renowned connoisseurs of literature and acknowledged aficionados of art and culture. Words count is brainchild of Advaita Kala, an award-winning screenwriter, author and columnist. The event was supported by Panchshil and JW Marriot, Pune.

While elaborating on the issue of JNU, he said, “Professors in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) are misguiding students and working as activists rather than teachers and our final ideological battle will happen there.” Ambekar was interviewed by Padmaja Joshi, journalist from India Today.

Ambekar, when asked about Nationalism he said that every Indian is a nationalist and should express their nationalism through their honest work.

When asked about unemployment number reaching the lowest level in the last 45 years, Ambekar said that students should always look for entrepreneurship and self-reliance. He said, “No government can provide government jobs for all. Government can only create conducive environment and a supportive system for the people to create and receive lucrative opportunities.”

He further added that ABVP has played a pivotal role in Skill India policy and has made it more accessible to students. He also added that their programme ‘Mission Sahasi’ has trained 8 lakh women in self defense.

While speaking about ABVP, Ambekar highlighted that ABVP is a student organisation that has formed on ideological foundation of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). “It was formed right after Independence with a vision of nation building. ABVP has always put nation first and has been working towards creative conducive environment for youth,” said Ambekar.

He further elaborated that ABVP has three point agenda that includes Property, Pride and Perspective. “We believe that our functioning and ideology is not inspired by Western ideas. We believe in inculcating ideas of our glorious past, pride of this nation and right perspectives regarding inclusiveness and empowerment of people in this nation,” said Ambekar. He further added that ABVP is a voluntary organisation, it is open for all but everyone who enters are supposed to follow the norms.

Advaita Kala in her introductory address said, “The idea behind this festival is to create a platform for socio-political discussions and celebrate the spirit of open and civil dialogue which is enrooted in the Indian culture,” said Kala while delivering an introductory speech.
