Foundation Laid for Illegal Temple Inside Nampally Public Gardens in Hyderabad; BJP Whipping Up Communal Hate After Extremists Burn Holi Near Mosque in Chengicherla to Polarise Lok Sabha Polls

The desperate and disillusioned hard-core anti-Muslim leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, have been making trips to Telangana to get a toehold in South India with a laughable target of 50+ seats. In the national capital, New Delhi, centuries-old mosques, which were heritage structures, were demolished overnight in the name of road widening and encroachment. In BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Assam, many mosques were demolished as part of the state hate campaign unleashed against Muslims. In UP, the Barabanki mosque was demolished despite a court stay order. Regular, historical, and legal mosques are destroyed by the BJP governments, whereas new illegal temple construction is taken up in many places with the state administration turning a blind eye!

The pillars and foundation have been laid at the historical Public Gardens at Nampally in Hyderabad for an illegal temple. The Revanth Reddy-led Congress Government in Telangana, the Horticulture Department, and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) seem to be complicit in the conspiracy. How can the lung space and recreation place of the citizens be usurped by the illegal construction of temple on government land? Many citizens come to the Public Gardens for a morning walk. There is even a Walkers Club there.

It may be recalled that the Public Gardens popularly called Bagh -e- Aam in Urdu was built by the visionary Nizam of Hyderabad.  TheTelangana State Archeology Museum, Potti Sriramulu Telugu University, a well-known open-air theater “Lalitha Kala Toranam”, “Jawahar Bal Bhavan”, The Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council buildings are located here. It is in the Nizam-built Legislative Assembly in the premises of the Public Gardens that the BJP badmouths and accuses the Glorious Nizams for no fault! There is a historical Royal Mosque (Shahi Masjid) next to the Legislative Building.

The government machinery is engaged in the election work. Taking advantage of this, the Hindutva extremists are planning to grab land and build an illegal temple. How can the foundation and the pillars be constructed in broad daylight or overnight with the authorities not taking action to evict the encroachers?

Tension prevailed at Chengicherla village, Ghatkesar, on the outskirts of Hyderabad following an issue involving two different communities over playing music near a mosque, on Sunday evening. Trouble started when a group of people who were attending prayers at the mosque objected to certain persons playing loud music in front of the mosque. An argument ensued between the members of both the groups and they pushed each other. Soon a police team of Medipally police reached the spot and prevented the issue from flaring up further. Senior police officials rushed to the troubled spot and counseled the members of both communities. After taking complaints from both groups, the police registered two cases and started an investigation.

However, trouble escalated on Monday when some Hindu violent groups took out a protest rally and attempted to celebrate Holi by burning Holi Dahan near the mosque. The police had barricaded the road and prevented them from heading towards the spot. When the protestors tried to force their way ahead, the police resorted to a mild lathi charge to disperse them. The Telangana BJP State President G Kishan Reddy visited Chengicherla and allegedly incited the innocent tribals against the Muslim community, according to locals. The police could have barred the communal BJP leader’s entry to Chengicherla. That was not done for reasons best known to the police.

The conspiracy to create Hindu –Muslim animosity and pave the way for communal riots to polarize the Lok Sabha elections should be thwarted by alert citizens and the local police. Congress’ stakes and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s reputation will go down the hill if communal riots are allowed to engulf the Telangana State. The illegal encroachment to build a temple at the Nampally Public Gardens must be stopped at once. The encroachers and the inefficient and conniving officials must be sent to jail. Elections come and go. Hyderabad’s cherished communal harmony must be preserved at all costs!
