Jamia’s MCRC to offer a new course in Acting

Starting this session i.e. July 2012, Jamia Millia Islamia’s premier media institute, AJK Mass Communication Research Centre will offer a new course in Acting.

The course will be a Postgraduate Diploma programme of 1 year duration and there will be a total of 20 seats on offer.

The prospectus with application form can either be downloaded from Jamia’s website www.jmi.ac.in or can be bought over the counter from the university on all working days.

The last date for receiving completed application forms is 3 May 2012.

The Postgraduate Diploma Course in Acting aims to introduce the student to the fundamentals of acting and to make them informed observers of the acting experience. Through various improvisations and exercises, which will constitute the course curricula, acting skills of the students’ will be nurtured.

This course will open avenues for students in theatre productions as well as television and film industry since acting is an important component across all these media. They may become teachers, actors and script writers in any of the above arenas.

Since this is a professional course, a balance will be maintained between theory and practice of Acting. Inputs on acting, voice, script writing etc. will be given to students to introduce them to various elements of acting.

The eligibility for the course is graduation in any discipline (10+2+3) with not less than 50% marks in aggregate.

Admission to the programme will be through an Entrance Test followed by an Interview.

The Written Test will have multiple choice questions on a) General Knowledge (25 marks) b) Knowledge of theatre/drama (25 marks) as also Descriptive questions (35 marks). The Interview will be given a weightage of 15 marks. Besides, 25 marks will be reserved for the portfolio of the applicant which should consist of acting related activities.
