Girls have outperformed boys in terms of pass ratio in 10+2 exams in two states in the southern India. In the results announced today by Karnataka Pre-University Board, girls were ahead of boys by over 13% in Second PUC (Class 12) exams.

In Andhra Pradesh, 69.04% girls passed the Inter Second Year (Class 12) examinations, while the pass percentage of boys stood at 62.

Girls’ pass percentage was much above the overall pass percentage of 65.36% in the general regular category in Inter Second Year exams, the results announced last week by Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) reveal.

Girls Outshine Boys in 10+2 Exams in Two South States

In Karnataka’ Second PUC, 59.36% of students have passed, including nearly 22,000 students who passed in distinction. Out of 6,11,569 students, 3,63,057 lakh students have passed this exams, comprising 66.51% girls and 52.72% boys.

About 3.63 lakh students passed Karnataka Second PUC exam 2013, which was held from 13 to 28 March 2013 across 961 centers in the state. It shows a 2% increase in pass percentage compared to the last year.

Among districts, Udupi was on the top in Second PUC results with a pass percentage of 92.72%, while Dakshina Kannada came at second position with 91.76%. Uttara Kannada secured third place with 82.97 pass percentage, whereas Yadagir district placed last. About 73% of students passed this exam in Bangalore rural.

In the Inter Second Year exams in general category, Krishna district stood on top with a pass percentage of 77%, whereas Visakhapatnam came at second position with 72%. The Telangana region districts’ performance was poor – Hyderabad (56%), Adilabad (54%), Karimnagar (52%), Nizamabad (48%), Medak (46%) and Mahabubnagar (45%).

A total of 34.77% girls cleared Intermediate Second Year exams compared to 28.30% boys in the general private category in Andhra Pradesh. The overall pass percentage in vocational courses was 48.60% in regular and 25.55% in private categories.

Among groups, the Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (MPC) was on the top with a pass percentage of 75.37% in Inter Second Year exams, followed by Biology, Physics and Chemistry (BPC) whose pass percentage was 67.99%. Arts subjects suffered with History Economics and Civics (HEC) at 38.31%.
