Malaysia: The UN General Assembly for the first time on March 2 suspended a member of The Human Rights Council, Libya. The recent unreasoned actions of the Libyan Government of using its Army, Airforce and foreign mercenaries to kill its citizens has horrified the world.
French newspaper Le Monde puts the figures of the Libyans killed over a period of three weeks at over 6,000.
Applauding the move US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated: “Today’s historic action is the first of its kind. In fact, before it, no country has ever had its membership suspended.” She further said: “The International community is speaking with one voice and the message is unshakable. The violation of universal rights are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
The secretary lamented: “The UN General Assembly has made it clear that the government of any country that turn guns toward its own people have no place in the Human Rights Council. The United states welcomed the move and will continue to work to get the aspirations of the Libyans fulfilled. It will make effort to bring to justice those responsible in the current conflict and support the transition to democracy.
