All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi, along with thousands of supporters, conducted a day long walkathon across the city on Tuesday as a part of extensive election campaign for MIM candidate and former senior journalist Imtiyaz Jaleel in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

Imtiyaz is contesting from Aurangabad Central, which is one of the 24 seats being contested by the party in the assembly elections scheduled for October 15 in Maharashtra. The state has 288 assembly seats.

During the walkathon that started from Begumpura area, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi came down heavily on communal forces in the state and blamed the Congress and NCP for playing communal politics under the garb of being secular.

Owaisi said, “It is only after our candidates win, we’ll show true secularism in word and spirit. We’ll ensure that nobody irrespective of his religious affiliations is deprived of his rights as a citizen of this country.”

Coming down heavily on Congress and NCP, Owaisi said, “The Congress and NCP have failed as a government in the state and the socio-educational indicator of Muslims in the state has further weaken in the last 15 years in the state.”

Pointing out the alleged disparity, he said, “Out of the 33 lakh Muslim households in the state, only 20% posses ration cards, over 60 % of total Muslim population in the state belongs to Below Poverty Line, as they do not even earn Rs 32 per day.”

Owaisi said that by contesting in the assembly elections here, his party aims at putting a serious check on the communal politics in the state of Maharashtra. The party has also roped in former minister and Dalit face in Maharashtra politics, Gangadhar Gade, who is contesting from Aurangabad west, a constituency reserved for SC candidates.
