Gaza, March 3 (Xinhua) — Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday expressed hope that the Higher Military Council would succeed in its tasks in Egypt.

Abbas expressed his remarks in a phone conversation with Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, the head of the Higher Military Council which took on power after former President Hosni Mubarak step down in February.

Palestinian official news agency, Wafa, said that Abbas passed his hopes of stability to Tantawi and the Egyptians.

Wafa said that the two sides “emphasized the deepness of ties between Palestine and Egypt on all levels.”

On Tuesday, Abbas received a letter from Tantawi, who said that Egypt’s foreign policy will keep supporting the Palestinian cause on all levels.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister, Riad Al-Maliki, said that the Palestinian leadership’s confidence in Egypt has been boosted, especially “as the change in Egypt did not change its stance that supports and agrees with the Palestinian cause and the positions of the Palestinian leadership.”

A senior official from the Egyptian intelligence has postponed his visit to the West Bank city of Ramallah for 10 days and sources told Xinhua that “technical” matters were behind the postponement.
