New Delhi: Close to the heals of assembly election results in Tamil Nadu and arrest of DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, a gap has emerged in the Congress party-DMK coalition in the state and it is continue to be widening. It became evident after DMK chief M. Karunanidhi’s recent visit to New Delhi. He came to Delhi on May 23 to meet his daughter Kanimozhi, who is in jail these days because of her alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum scam, and flew for Chennai the next day without meeting Congress party president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

This is the first time in seven years, after the DMK and Congress sewed up an alliance, that Karunanidhi has gone back without calling on the Congress president.

Some sources in the Congress part said that Sonia did not take any initiative in meeting Karunanidhi as it would have led to unnecessary media speculation over their talks whether he sought the party’s help in bailing out Kanimozhi.

The Congress president, however, did not want to send out the message that it has left its ally in the cold in the hour of crisis.

While Sonia made herself scarce, senior leaders P. Chidambaram, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Jayanti Natarajan and V. Narayanaswamy called on the 87- year- old former chief minister.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the CBI on the bail pleas of Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar in the 2G scam case.

The court will now hear the argument on the bail plea of the two accused on May 30.

The matter will be heard by Justice Ajit Bharihoke, who on Monday dismissed the bail pleas of five corporate honchos in the case.
