New Delhi: The government will certainly bring the anti graft law in the upcoming monsoon session of the parliament and it will be passed to the earliest.
Speaking to the media, Union Minister P Chidabamram assured that the bill will be strong and effective.
Kapil SIbal reminded that they will stand by the government’s commitment of bringing the bill in the session, but added that it will take its due course after going through the procedure.
Yesterday, government was cornered during the all party meet for “bypassing” the “established procedure” and for roping in “civil society” for drafting a bill.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, however, assured all participating parties that the bill will be “within the framework of the constitution” and that the Lokpal will find an “appropriate place in that matrix.”
Although all parties have agreed for a strong and effective ombudsman, there are differences over its version, especially in brining the higher judiciary or the office of prime minister within its ambit. These clauses are expected to be strongly debated in the parliament and in the standing committee.
Due to differences the one line statement after the meeting, yesterday, said, “The government should bring before the next session of Parliament a strong and effective Lokpal Bill following the established procedures.”
However, most major parties did not appear very enthusiastic about Anna Hazare’s version of the bill either.
