New Delhi: Senior activist Anna Hazare is hell bent to conduct the proposed agitation for a strong Lokpall Bill under any circumstances. He said yesterday that he was ready to face “not only bullets, but also lathis.”

When asked what gift would give Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal and Home Minister P. Chidambaram on the occasion of Friendship Day, Hazare said that “better sense.”

Addressing a press conference in Aurangabad, Hazare said that the government had not given them anything in writing regarding rejecting permission for agitating at Jantar Mantar and vowed to continue the proposed indefinite fast.

“We will conduct the agitation as the government has not told us anything in writing pertaining to the refusal,” said Hazare. The activist is preparing to go on an indefinite fast from August 16 even as the Delhi Police has said that he cannot stage fast at Jantar Mantar, citing reasons like the lack of space and the ban on a large gatherings near Parliament.

Meanwhile, noted Supreme Court lawyer and key member of the Lokpal Bill drafting committee Prashant Bhushan said that Anna Hazare’s proposed satyagraha from August 16 will force the Central government to withdraw the “powerless” Jan Lokpal bill introduced in Parliament recently and replace it with a more stringent and transparent one.

Bhushan was delivering the 10th N. Narendran memorial lecture at the Press Club here. While terming the Government’s bill as “Promotion of Corruption Bill 2011,” he demanded drastic structural changes to make the bill more effective in dealing with corruption in high places.

He said that the anti-corruption movement had received widespread support from various section of the society
