    बहन मायावती को यह ‘ज्ञान’ कब प्राप्त हुआ?

By Adv. Mohd. Shoaib for BeyondHeadlines

Didi and Behenji Ignore Rules to Hide ‘MAYA’

    Afroz Alam Sahil, BeyondHeadlines

New Delhi. Behenji and Didi of Indian Politics Mayawati and Mamta Banerjee may talk a lot about transparency and good governance in television advertisements of their governments but the fact is that they are ignoring rules when it comes to their transparency and responsibility.

Despite many controversies surrounding donations given to Mayawati and BSP, the party has so far never submitted details of its funds to the Election Commission of India.

The documents recieved by BeyondHeadlines throught RTI shows that Bahujan Samaj Party of Mayawati and Trinmool Congress of Mamta Banerjee had never submitted information about its funds to ECI.

The more interesting is the fact that the flag bearer of opposition in parliament and crusader of anti corruption movement in politics, The Bhartiya Janata Party has also not submitted information regarding its funds in financial year 2010-11. This is the same BJP who has accepted donation of Rupees One Lakh from controversial Dow chemicals in year 2006-7. The donation, as first reported by BeyondHeadlines, has caused much furor in Indian politics.

Samajwadi Party of Mulayam Singh Yadav is has also not submitted information about its funds to the ECI this year.

But BSP, TMC and SP are not alone in list of parties not submitting information to ECI. More then one thousand registerd political parties have ignored the rules of ECI regarding Party funding.

Since they are the politicians and belong to the ruling class they atleast deserve the distinction to break the rules. Above all India is a Democracy and Democracies these days are ruled by those who master art of breaking rules!

Mayawati Wants Reservation for Minorities, Poor Upper Castes; Writes to PM

    BeyondHeadlines Correspondent

Lucknow: Over the last three days, Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister has dashed off a letter per day to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. On Saturday, it was for granting reservations to Muslims, the next day another one followed insisting on providing quotas for the poor upper castes and on Monday Mayawati sent out another letter demanding Other Backward Class (OBC) reservation for Jats, who form a decisive vote bank in western UP.

Opposition leaders have slammed Mayawati for playing petty politics on cast and communal lines.

Playing the minority card, Mayawati has urged the Central government to provide reservation to minorities, especially Muslims, proportionate to their population. Her move comes soon after Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid hinted that the centre might be considering such a move itself.

Khurshid recently said the centre is contemplating reservations for Muslims by bringing some changes in the existing law. The minister also said reservations to Muslims would be given on the lines of what Andhra Pradesh had done earlier. “We will follow the Andhra Pradesh model closely,” he said.

Khurshid’s comments are being seen as an attempt to woo about 20% Muslim population in Uttar Pradesh, where elections are scheduled to be held next year. Khurshid has said the OBC Commission would conduct a survey to decide the percentage of reservation to be given to Muslims.

On Sunday, Mayawati shot off a letter to the Prime Minister asking for education and job quotas for the poor among upper castes. The move is clearly designed to lure the upper castes to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Though the BSP got a sizeable section of the upper caste vote, especially Brahmins, in the 2007 Assembly election, this votebank has dwindled over the years.

Ramdev Threats Govt to Hold Armed Protest in Delhi Next Time

    BeyondHeadlines New Desk

New Delhi: Angry with the police action on his camp at Delhi’s Ramlila Ground on late Saturday night, Baba Ramdev has warned the central government this morning that he would stage armed protest at same venue next time and that his followers would be ready to retaliate, NDTV reported.

“Next time at Ramlila, it will be Ravanlila. Let’s see who gets beaten up,” the yoga guru threatened the government in clear terms.

Baba Ramdev detailed the arms training plan: “Twenty youth from each region will come forward for the fight against corruption. These young people should be 35-40 years old. Not only men, young women must also join them. They must be dedicated, ready to make the ultimate sacrifice. They will be given arms training. We will build an army of 11,000 men and women.”

After his eviction from Delhi and his return to the ashram in Haridwar, Baba Ramdev had announced that he was resuming his indefinite hunger-strike against black money and corruption. He has been constantly making statements about his plans to take his crusade forward from his headquarters and on Tuesday, he struck a more benign note when he said he “forgave” the Prime Minister and his government at a personal level.

“I forgive the PM and government for atrocities and wrongs done to me…but for destroying democracy, the nation will have to decide,” he said. And with the latter political statement, he also added that he was once again “open to talking to the government, if they approach us.”

On Saturday, Baba Ramdev had begun a hunger-strike at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. The Delhi Police, stating that he had permission only to hold a yoga camp with 5,000 in attendance and not a protest with over 50,000 people, had dismantled the camp, where 65,000 people had gathered before they were lathicharged and tear gassed.

The Baba himself was evicted and then flown back to his headquarters in Hardwar on the government’s orders.

In Delhi on Monday, the Supreme Court asked the government to explain its action – at a characteristically lengthy speech in Uttarakhand, the Baba said he was grateful for the court’s intervention.

He also said that he rejected the Delhi Police’s version of events. “The Delhi Police is lying. They beat up people. They said that people were injured in a stampede. None of our workers provoked violence.” He also said that “the Mahatma would be crying” about the government’s treatment of the women and children who he claims were attacked on Saturday night.

The government has banned the Baba from entering Delhi for the next 15 days. While the yoga teacher is accustomed to whipping up crowds that run into thousands, he now faces the unique problem of where to set up a new base camp for his “satyagraha against corruption.”  He was hoping to bring his movement to Noida in Uttar Pradesh, but Chief Minister Mayawati has rejected that proposal on the grounds that it could lead to a law and order problem.

  • Mayawati Announces to Introduces New Land Acquisition Policy With Effect From Today

    BeyondHeadlines  Staff Reporter
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today met farmers protesting for greater compensation for land and assured them that a new land acquisition policy would be introduced. Although she said that the new policy would come into effect from today, the new policy would not affect land acquisition in Bhatta-Parsaul.
The chief minister said the private players would have to directly acquire the land and that the government would only act as a facilitator. She further added that farmers would be given 16% of developed land.
Last month, farmers’ agitation at Bhatta Parsaul in Greater Noida had turned ugly with around 30 persons and 3 cops losing their lives.
Earlier, the BSP supremo charged Congress party over fuelling the agitation in Uttar Pradesh when she said, “The Congress was only responsible for the demonstrations by the peasantry.”
“We will raise the issue in Parliament for bringing uniform land acquisition policy,” Mayawati added while stating her strategy to resolve the land acquisition spat.
The Allahabad High Court on May 30 cancelled the 170 hectare land acquisition in Gulistanpur in Greater Noida. Earlier, 100 farmers approached the court seeking justice as the government “forcefully” grabbed the farm lands.
The Mayawati government reportedly acquired the land for private real estate developers. The High Court also asked the state government to pay for any monetary loss to any farmer.
However, the Supreme Court on the same day refused to entertain a petition seeking a CBI enquiry into the alleged excesses and violence unleashed by the Uttar Pradesh government on farmers protesting against “forcible” acquisition of land at Bhatta Parsaul.
Assembly elections are due in Uttar Pradesh in 2012.

2G Scam: Shahid Balwa to Disclose Before JPC

    BeyondHeadlines News Desk

New Delhi: In a new twist to the 2G spectrum allocation controversy, Swan Telecom promoter Shahid Balwa – a co-accused in the case- has expressed his desire to depose before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probing the matter, reports claimed Wednesday.

Shahid Usman Balwa is said to have written a letter to the JPC seeking permission to depose before the panel and testify in connection with the high profile case.

“In the interest of the investigation, I should be called to depose before the JPC. I request you (JPC) to consider my request to depose before the panel at the earliest and at a time of your convenience,” Balwa was quoted as saying in the letter.

Balwa’s testimony is likely to complicate things for the Congress-led UPA government, which is already fighting to control the damage caused due to the scam, which as per the Comptroller and Auditor General of India caused a loss of Rs 1.77 lakhs crore to the exchequer.

As per other reports, Balwa may turn approver in the spectrum scam case , which may lead to the revealing of new names in the case.

Shahid Balwa, director of DB Realty, had floated Swan Telecom, which was a beneficiary of 2G spectrum allocation. It is alleged that Balwa, due to his proximity to then telecom minister A Raja, managed to win 13 of the 22 2G licences across India.

On May 24, a special CBI court rejected the bail plea of Shahid Balwa.

Special CBI Judge O P Saini, exclusively dealing with the 2G case, also dismissed the bail pleas of Balwa’s cousin, Asif Balwa and Rajeev Aggarwal, accused of facilitating Rs 200 crore bribe to Kalaignar TV in which DMK MP Kanimozhi holds 20 percent share.

Asif Balwa and Rajeev Agarwal are directors of Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd in which Shahid Balwa also holds a stake.

Shahid Balwa is currently lodged in Tihar Jail along with A Raja and other accused.

PM Calls For Upgradation of Safety Measures at India’s Nuclear Facilities

    BeyondHeadlines News Desk

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today calls for upgradation of safety measures at the India’s nuclear facilities to match the global standards as he reviewed the disaster preparedness in the wake of recent radiation scare in Japan.

At a special meeting here, he asked the authorities concerned to look ‘beyond design basis accident’ while putting in place the safety measures at the nuclear installations.

Singh took stock of the safety measures being undertaken by Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL).

He directed DAE and AERB to “upgrade the safety measures in the light of the Fukushima experience (of Japan) and look at Beyond Design Basis Accident”, the home ministry said in a statement.

The meeting of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) was informed about the various procedures put in place in terms of prevention, detection and response to the atomic disasters.

The meeting is understood to have discussed installation of hi-tech gadgets to detect radiation and fast-tracking of creation of additional battalions of disaster response force.

“Our nuclear plants are safe. There are many in-built mechanisms in the nuclear sites to avoid any disaster. The Prime Minister is fully satisfied about the safety facilities. However, we have to take more steps to strengthen our preparedness to deal with any emergency,” NDMA vice chairman M Shashidhar Reddy said at a press conference later.

  • BJP to Hold National Executive Meeting in Lucknow

BJP to Hold National Executive Meeting in Lucknow

    BeyondHeadlines News Desk

Lucknow: The Bhartiya Janta Party would be holding its national executive meet in the politically most crucial state of Uttar Pradesh after a five year gap. It comes just ahead of the assembly elections due in April 2012, with the party grappling with the erosion of its votebank and looking for relevance in the state polity.

Despite numerous experiments and attempts at caste groupings, the leadership has failed to revive either the votebank or the cadres and emerge as a contendor for power in the vast state. Figuring at the top of the leaderships mind would be send a distinct message that it would no longer seek any sort of alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party of Mayawati.

The national executive of the party would be held from 3 to 5 May which would be attended by a galaxy of its top leaders including LK Advani, President Nitin Gadkrai, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and all its Chief Ministers.
The timing is especially important as the party would look to set the agenda and its strategy for the UP elections which are only a few months away.

The state unit of the BJP under the newly appointed chief Surya Pratap Sahi has been trying to activate the cadre by extensively touring the state and attacking the Mayawati government on major issues. But with the past experience of BJP-BSP alliances the party is trying hard to dispel the image of it having enough of Mayawati.

One of the foremost agenda of the national executive meet would be to convey once and for all that the BJP would no longer seek to have an alliance with the BSP whether pre-poll or post poll.

The frequent alliances with the BSP had hurt the BJP cadres and a disillusioned upper caste votebank drifted away from the saffron party. With Mayawati engineering social grouping of Dalit and Brahmins in support of her party in the 2007 assembly elections, the BJP was left counting its losses.

Ever since though the party leaders have been saying that they would never enter into an alliance with BSP ever again, it has failed to convince its cadres and votebase. The three day national executive meet would seek to bury this issue so that the party can woo back its vote base and also reach out at those leaders who are disillusioned or have left the party.

Firebrand Uma Bharti whose return to the BJP has been talked about is also likely to figure during internal confabulations. With the Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley differences cropping up again recently eyes would be on them too.

Also the ticket distribution strategy for UP would be chalked out so that the party candidates can gear up for the polls in advance.

  • Bhatta Parsaul Row: Mayawati to Hold ‘Kisan Panchayat’ Tommow

    BeyondHeadlines News Desk

New Delhi: In an attempt to woo farmers after getting them brutally beaten by the police in the backdrop of their agitations in Bhatta-Parsaul and Katesar Villages, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has announced that she will hold a ‘kisan panchayat’ tomorrow for a dialogue with them.

“The chief minister will hold a panchayat tomorrow to discuss the problems of the farmers by meeting them,” a senior official said.

Mayawati is under attack from opposition parties for allegedly ignoring the interest of farmers after the Bhatta-Parsaul incident (Greater NOIDA).

After Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Greater NOIDA village, Congress leaders and it’s president Sonia Gandhi had launched a direct attack on the BSP government terming it of adopting ‘anti-farmers’ attitude.

Besides, discussion on land acquisition issue, the issues related to power supply, availability of seeds and fertilisers and procurement of wheat are likely to be taken up, he said.

After the panchayat, Mayawati is likely to make some announcements redressing grievances of the farmers, sources said.

Farmers in Bhatta Parsaul were agitating for more compensation of their land from the Uttar Pradesh government.

Four persons, including two policemen, were killed in the violence while others sustained injuries.

Farmers of Katesar village in Mugalsarai sat on a dharna on May 24 against land acquisition by Varanasi Development Authority (VDA). More than 1500 farmers are allegedly affected by the acquisition.
