SANAA, June 3 (Xinhua) — Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and several high-ranking officials were injured in the shelling on Saleh’s palace in the capital Sanaa on Friday, a security official told Xinhua.

Saleh was slightly injured while Yemeni Prime Minister Ali Mujawar, Deputy Prime Minister Rashid al-Alami and Parliament Speaker Yahya al-Raiee were wounded by shells, a security official told Xinhua.

Eyewitnesses said some bodies were taken out of the palace.

Earlier, witnesses told Xinhua that a series of explosions and heavy gunfire rocked a mosque near Saleh’s Palace in Sanaa.

Columns of smoke resulted from the explosions and heavy shooting were seen soaring from the residential neighborhoods surrounding the presidential palace in south of Sanaa.
