New Delhi.  The governments are elected to work for the welfare of the people. There are no doubts about elected representatives working for their respective parties as well. But when it comes to Gujarat, the state government seems to be working for the welfare of Bhartiya Janta Party.

Political parties are funded by corporate, builders, traders, NGO’s and individuals to take undue gains in some or other ways.  But in Gujarat the CM is so powerful that he can make his government donate funds to his political party.

Don’t be surprised to know that Narendra Modi’s Gujarat Government has donated to Bhartiya Janta Party. Documents received by BeyondHeadlines in reply to an RTI states that The Government Of Gujarat has donated 25 thousand Rupees to Bhartiya Janta Party in year 2009-10 via State Bank Of India cheque Number -482811.

It is a bitter reality of our democracy that leaders cross lines of moral responsibilities and work for welfare of their respective political parties.  There are no doubts that politicians held ultimate power and can make anyone donate to their parties. But it is hard to digest when we see a state government donating money to political party of its elected head.

The question here is not of the amount. But the question is how can a government use even a single paisa politically?

(This report is third in series of Political Parties and their funding, soon we will share information about funding of Other Parties)
