Samba: A massive demonstration was held today on the main road near village Glad by the residents of Border belt of the district demanding upgradation of High Schools to the level of Higher Secondary Schools. PDP leader Sunny Sangral and his party activists led the agitating people. Large number of students also joined the protest.

The people blocked the main road for hours altogether and disrupted the vehicular movement. Later, they peacefully dispersed. They blamed the Government squarely for ignoring the well-being of border people.

The PDP leader said that hundreds of students residing in border belt were forced to travel a distance of 30 kilometer or more on daily basis for their studies at higher secondary level. “There are at least 100 villages in this border belt and nearly two thousand students come to Samba town for taking higher secondary classes as they have no Higher Secondary School in their vicinity,” he added.

Sarpanch of Glad Panchayat, Ram Pal Sharma informed that the border people are the migrants of 1971 from Chhamb area. They have been ignored by the Government on all the fronts. In the entire border belt there are only two High Schools and that too were shifted from Chhamb to Glad after 1971 war. Since then, their children are forced to travel 30 kilometers up and down for further studies after matric which is very unfortunate, he lamented.

Lambardar Balbir Singh held successive State Governments and their elected representive from the constituency. Yash Pal Kundal responsible for their plight for the past many decades. He mentioned that several leaders from political outfits came to them and assured of upragdation of High Schools to the level of Higher Secondary Schools but none succeeded.

Sangral condemned the discriminatory attitude of State Government towards the people of border and urged the authorities to initiate measures to redress the grievances of people. He assured the people of taking up their demands with the concerened quarter and redressal of the same at an earliest. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Prem Pal and Gar Singh.
