Congress MLA from Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of “trying to get votes through false propaganda”.

Mr. Saroori, who addressed three rallies in Inderwal constituency including Thakrie, Mugalmaidan and Chatroo in J&K, said the BJP leaders play differently in public and private. “The BJP leaders say one thing in their closed doors meetings and another in public meetings”, he remarked.

“They (the BJP leaders) are talking of revoking article 370 of the Constitution, but no central government has the power to revoke this article,” Saroori added.

Mr. Saroori, along MLA Bhaderwal Mohammed Sharief Niaz, MLC Naresh Gupta, Advocate Aslam Goni and Congress Leader from Doda Sheikh Mujeeb, addressed over 10,000 people. The election campaign for three constituencies: Bhaderwah, Kishtwar and Inderwal concluded on 29 March. They addressed 30 rallies and more than 70 meetings.

Mr. Saroori urged locals to rise above caste and religion based politics and vote for the Congress party, while also asking them to remember development works done during UPA-I and UPA-II. Asking to vote and support Ghulam Nabi Azad, he said Mr. Azad is “the only suitable candidate to safeguard our interest in the parliament”.

While addressing the gathering, Mr. Niaz asked the electoral not to waste their time elsewhere and vote for Mr. Azad to help Congress march ahead on the path of development. “The future is safe in the strong hands of Rahul Gandhi who is sure to become the prime minister,” he added.

Other local leaders of Congress spoke on the occasion and termed UPA led government an ideal situation for Jammu and Kashmir, while noting that the BJP led government at the Centre will not be in the interests of the country.
