Pune: Khan who owns golden constructions is reportedly close to a former PMC standing committee chairman Rashid Shaikh.

Samarth police have booked builder Asif Hanif Khan of Golden Construction company for cheating and criminal breach of trust, after he failed to handover flats to people under the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project in Nana Peth.

On June 21, one of the flat owners Rajesh Thakur (42), an auto rickshaw driver committed suicide after the builder refused to give the possession of his flats and kept it in abeyance for more than five years. Thakur’s daughter Komal, 21, a college student has lodged the FIR against the builder.

According to the police, Thakur is survived by his wife, four daughters and 12-year-old son Wilson. Depressed with builder’s refusal, Thakur had committed suicide around 5 am on June 21 by jumping from his third floor residence.

As per Komal’s complaint, Khan had approached them six years ago, as he planned to construct the area at 1041, New Nana Peth, under SRA and had promised to give them house in a year’s time. Meanwhile, he had re-located them to a rental accommodation on the adjacent plot. Khan constructed six buildings with six floors each and refused to give Thakur possession.

Komal said, “Khan wanted us to sell our flat but we refused following which he started sending goons to our house. Few days back, before my father’s suicide, Khan’s men tried to run over my younger sister.”

Police officials said that Khan is politically connected and close to an ex-chairman of the PMC standing committee. Police Sub Inspector V L Chavan is further investigating the case.
