IT Dept. Grills Activist Seeking Enquiry in Hazare’s Donation Allegation

BeyondHeadlines News Desk

Even after a good nine months, the Income Tax Department seems to be beating around the bush in context to a complaint filed by social activist Dr Nutan Thakur, seeking an enquiry into the allegations made by social activist Anna Hazare about the money collection in his name and its alleged siphoning off.

A video of December 2012 related to the renowned social activist Anna Hazare became public in November 2013, just before Delhi assembly elections. In this video Hazare is clearly heard saying that at Ram Lila ground protest, more than three crore people gave donations and all this money collected in his name has been misappropriated.

Presenting a link to this video, social activist Dr Nutan Thakur had preferred a complaint on 16 December 2013 to the Income Tax Department seeking enquiry under the Income Tax Act 1961.

Instead of enquiring the matter any further, the Income Tax department is however asking the complainant herself to provide ‘concrete information’.  Umesh Kumar, ITO (Investigation), Unit-VI(2), Directorate of Income Tax, New Delhi has asked her “to provide some concrete information along with facts and documents for necessary action”.

“Hazare’s statements are quite clear and hence any delay in the name of lack of facts in untenable. The IT department should thus follow a correct course of enquiry and ask Anna Hazare as regards veracity of his allegations”, pointed Thakur.

The video recording forwarded by Thakur consists of a voice (claimed to be that of Hazare), where he is alleged to have said, “Ab jaise main ramlila me baith gaya. 3 crore se jyada logon ne paisa diya vo mere naam par. Main 5 rupaya bhi nahi liya. Doosra anna hazare ke naam par itna vo data collection kiya, kya kiya, to itna sab kiya., naam mera use kiya, jo data collect hua uska istemal election ke liye hua. Jo data collect hua uska upayopg election ke liye ho raha hai. Hamaare naam par jo paisa collection hua us paise kaa upayog (nahi ho raha hai). Baat barabar hai.”
