All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (MIM) Aurangabad MLA Imtiaz Jaleel raised the issue of granting the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) to Aurangabad.
Raising the matter as a point of propriety in the Maharashtra State Assembly on Tuesday, Imtiaz said that to remove the regional imbalance it was important that an institute of national prominence is set up in Aurangabad.
He told the House that it was a long-pending demand of the people of Marathwada to establish an IIM which will give a major boost to the city’s development. He informed the House that enough land has been made available in the city to house the institute on a 200-acre campus.
Imtiaz regretted that attempts were being made to shift the proposal from Aurangabad to Nagpur. He also informed the House that over 30 organisations related to education, trade and business have been holding relay hunger strike outside the Divisional Commissioner’s office demanding the setting up of IIM in Aurangabad.
Earlier in the day, all MLAs from the region demanded the sitting up of IIM in the city by holding a dharna outside the Assembly.
