In the wake of Pune techie Mohsin Sadiq Sheikh, Hyderabad’s Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC) has urged Prime Minister of India to stop target killing of Muslims and curb the activities of Hindutva organization in the country. Reproduced below is their press release. – Editor

Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee strongly condemns the brutal killing of Mohsin Sadiq Sheikh who was in IT profession and comes from the poor family. He was killed by Hindu Rashtra Sena in a well planned manner just because he was a Muslim. The intensity of hate against the Muslims can be understood by a sms by Hindu Rashtra Sena as, ‘PEHLI WICKET GIR GAYI’, which was sent within a minute after the murder of this youth. CLMC wrote a letter to prime Minster of India and Demands to stop target killing of Muslims and to curb the activities of Hindutva organization

CLMC state in letter to Prime Mister of India that, this committee feels that because of giving free hands to Hindutva organizations, they are creating chaos and uproar in different parts of the country by which peace and harmony is disturbed. It is a question on rule of law that there are hundreds of cases on these Hindutva organizations but still no action has been taken. In this recent incident, Hindu Rashtra Sena attacked Muslims, public property was burnt and Masjid and graveyards were attacked. It is a matter of grave concern that police became mute spectator. Questions raises in the minds of Muslims as to why they are becoming target; who is the conspirator; how and why this mind set is prepared against them. Muslims are thinking that it is greater conspiracy against them to bring down their morale and isolate them from the mainstream. This committee reminds that in this country so many ‘SENA’ (militia) are formed and each and every sena fills hatred against Muslims and attacks them. It is a matter of wonder that a person Dhananjay Desai is delivering hatred speeches here and there under the police supervision and there are people in the government organizations with anti-Muslim mind set who are providing all logistical support to such kind of elements.

Now this is the high time for the government of India to think honestly over this serious and sensitive issue in the greater interest of the country and people of India. Because if this trend is continued, the basic structure of Indian democracy and secularism may collapse. And the country may enter into the era of disturbance and the feeling of insecurity among all the people will raises which will be greatest threat to the human rights and civil liberties of the people of India. So this committee demands the government of India to intervene into the situation and take immediate measures to curb the anti-Muslim forces so that a sense of security is prevailed among the Muslim community and their confidence is restored.

Lateef Mohammed Khan,
Gen. Secretary – CLMC, Hyderabad
