Gaza, March 3 (Xinhua) — Egypt freed 12 Palestinians from its prisons Thursday, who had obtained release orders from courts in the era of former President Hosni Mubarak, a Palestinian activist said.

Emad Al-Said of the Gathering of Palestinian Prisoners’ Families said that the 12 people were on their way to the Gaza Strip.

The number of Palestinians still held in Egypt has been finally confirmed to be 32 after Thursday’s releases, Al-Said added.

He called on Egypt’s Supreme Council of the Armed Forces which currently controls the country to release the remaining 32.

In the middle of February, Egypt freed 14 Gaza-born Palestinians.
