Mumbai: Aurangabad MIM MLA Imtiaz Jaleel has urged the govt. to release innocent people languishing in jails for years. Referring to the youths from Malegaon who have been behind bars on terror charges he said if they are guilty punish them.

He said why the youth are being made to suffer simply because the investigating agencies namely the NIA and Maharashtra ATS contradicting each other. He told the House that even Col Purohit or Sadhvi Pragya should be released if the investigating agencies have no proof against them.

Participating in the supplementary demands discussion on home department and higher education, Imtiaz also demanded increase in the perks of policemen who get only rs 68 if they work on off days. He also demanded that police stations should be well equipped so that they handle the issues of the public. He highlighted that the newly inaugurated police station at Harsul in Aurangabad has tin sheds for constables who deal directly with the public.

Imtiaz also demanded the anti corruption bureau should send decoys to check on corruption instead of waiting for people to come with complaints. He regretted the ‘trafficop’ project that was started in pune was discontinued because it was curbing corruption that is rampant in the traffic and RTO department.

Imtiaz also wanted the police to be tech savvy so that they could handle the crimes being committed on social media. “Ours being a communally sensitive society a small clip on whatsApp is enough to incite riots,” he told the house.

He also reiterated the demand for shutting down all liquor shops specially those around slims where mostly Muslims and Dalits live. “The chief minister should otherwise put a board with his photograph outside the liquor shops with a caption that consuming liquor is good for health.”

Speaking about higher education he demanded setting up of the branch of Aligarh Muslim University at khuldabad. “We wanted Indian institute of management IIM in Aurangabad but that has been taken to Nagpur by the chief minister so at least now give Marathwada Aligarh Muslim university branch if the govt. seriously wants to develop all the regions.”
