CAIRO, May 24 (Xinhua) –Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his two sons will be tried for killing peaceful protesters, while over 60 people were killed in fresh clashes in Yemen Tuesday.

Egypt’s General Prosecutor Abdel Maguid Mahmoud decided on Tuesday to refer former President Hosni Mubarak and his sons to the criminal court over charges of intentionally killing peaceful protesters.

According to state-run news agency MENA, Mubarak and his two sons, Alaa and Gamal, were accused of a range of charges, including premeditated murder of protesters during the nationwide anti-regime demonstration that toppled Mubarak’s 30-year ruling, misusing presidential power for private gains and profits, along with wasting of public funds.

Mubarak is now under detention in a hospital in the Red Sea resort Sharm El-Sheikh. He was forced to resign on Feb. 11 after 18-day nationwide demonstrations, during which some 840 people were killed and more than 6,000 others were injured.

The ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces denied last week that it intended to grant Mubarak and his family amnesty, stressing there was absolutely no truth about its intention to pardon Mubarak and his family.

The fugitive businessman Hussein Salem, who had a close relation with Mubarak, was also referred to court over the same charges. He was accused for committing crimes of exporting gas to Israel together with former petroleum minister Sameh Fahmy, squandering state funds and illegally gaining financial benefits for themselves.
