Bangkok (Xinhua): Nearly 9,000 Thais have returned home from violence-stricken Libya so far and more than 12,000 jobs have been arranged for the unemployed workers, an official said on Friday.

Employment Department deputy director-general Sumeth Mahosot said a total of 501 Thai evacuees arrived at Bangkok’s international Suvarnabhumi airport Friday morning, Bangkok Post online reported.

About 2,500 Thai workers, who are still in the North African country, should all return to Thailand by March 15, he said.

If the workers who have been evacuated from Libya want to work abroad again, the Employment Department has more than 12,000 positions to offer — 7,300 positions for South Korea and about 5, 000 for countries in the Middle East, he said, adding that the salary rate for workers in South Korea is similar to Libya. The minimum salary is 26,000 baht (856 U.S. dollars) a month, he added.
