BeyondHeadlines News Desk

Border Security Force opened fire on clashing civilian groups in Hyderabad yesterday, killing three people and injuring 19 in Old City’s Kishanbagh area that falls in Rajendranagar MLA constituency.

The firing, which took place in Cyberabad Police Commissionarate limits, was allegedly opened to control mobs that clashed following burning of a religious flag the previous night. After killing three and injuring many, police said it brought the situation under control.

In this clash, a car was damaged, two motor cycles were burnt and two houses were set ablaze. According to sources, due to stone pelting at least 10 policemen sustained injuries. Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand imposed curfew in Rajendranagar.

Police Joint Commissioner Y Gangadhar was quoted by Deccan Chronicle as saying that the unidentified miscreants burnt the flag post of a community at Kishanbagh.

“Around 6.30 am, a group assembled and attacked people. As both groups, armed with swords and boulders clashed, we ordered BSF to fire in the air,” he said.

“Those who were at some height from the ground level were hit. Three people have died in the firing. The injured are stable.”

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said that the situation was under control. He added: “We have alerted all staff and patrolling is being intensified.”

The injured persons were rushed to Osmania General Hospital in Secundrabad and they are being treated there. Reacting to the situation, TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and AIMIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi asked people to remain peaceful.

While demanding arrest of the BSF Jawans who opened fire in public that killed three, Mr. Owaisi asked the government to set up a probe by a sitting High Court judge into the incident. AIMIM leaders toured the riot-hit area.

Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narsimhan, under whose control the state presently runs, has also reviewed the situation in the Old City and held a meeting with the DGP and other officials.
