ADDIS ABABA—The 2nd Africa-India Forum Summit will officially kick off today, at the head quarters of the African Union Commission (AUC), in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, holding under the theme: Enhancing Partnership Shared Vision .
The inaugural session will take place in the presence of the Chairperson of the African Union (AU), Mr. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of Equatorial Guinea; the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Jean Ping; the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh; the Deputy Chairperson of the AUC, Mr. Erastus Mwencha, the African Union Commissioners, representatives of AU Member States and invited guests.
The 2nd Africa-India Forum Summit is aimed at strengthening the cooperation ties between the two partners in the areas of economics; politics; science, technology, research and development; social development and capacity building; tourism; infrastructure, energy and environment and media and communication.
For two days, participants at the Summit will brainstorm and adopt a harmonized and comprehensive framework to reinforce the regional cooperation in a wide range of fields as support to the already existing bilateral cooperation between African countries and India.
Meanwhile, a joint Press Conference will close the 2nd Africa-India Forum Summit on 25 May 2011, from 1215-1300 hrs in Committee Room 1 at the AU Conference Center. The press conference will be addressed by the following personalities: Mr. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Chairperson of the African Union (AU), President of Equatorial Guinea; Dr. Jean Ping, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC); and Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of the Republic of India.
Worth recalling that, the Second Africa-Indian Summit Forum falls within the framework of Africa – India partnership. It is a follow-up to the first Africa-India Summit Forum which took place in New Delhi from 4 to 9 April 2008, during which the New Delhi Declaration and Framework for Co-operation were adopted.
